The Communion to the Sick Ministry brings communion to those who are ill, frail, aged and homebound members of the parish and therefore are unable to come to church to celebrate the Eucharist with their faith community. Depending on the needs of the sick, frail or homebound parishioners, we come to them when visits are requested.

I started with the ministry way back in 2008 and I still remember my first visit to a sick parishioner with Violet Kovac who diligently guided me to be part of this ministry. I have visited elderly parishioners and residents from Nursing homes around the Parish, whose faith transcended their frailty. A number of them have passed but they still hold a special place in my heart. Witnessing their devotion to their faith inspired me to be hopeful to live the life Jesus has set for me.

While ministering to a lady in her early 30’s, living alone and homebound due to a debilitating disease, I came to know how important it is for her to receive Christ. Her unconditional faith in Jesus and receiving Jesus through communion gives her strength to overcome her struggles brought by the disease. Seeing the smile on her face everytime I visit her strengthens my resolve to continue to serve in this ministry.

I believe this ministry is one of the most emotionally rewarding and humbling ministries in our church. It is an honour and privilege to bring Jesus to these people and connect them with their faith community.
