Church Upkeep Ministry – Cleaners and Vacuumers

This Ministry is as important as other Ministries of the Church. In order to keep the church clean and presentable as a place of worship, groups of four volunteers are rostered each week to wipe and dust the pews, clean the windows, vacuum the carpets, and clean the toilet. This cleaning takes place after the morning Mass on a Saturday, or it may be done at an alternative time as per an arrangement with the Parish Office.

Claire Kemp, one of our cleaning volunteers, writes:

I have been a part of the cleaning ministry at St James for most of the time I have been in the parish which is over 20 years. I have seen a few changes in the parish in that time and have sometimes considered stepping down from the ministry. Each time I do consider this, I find myself being drawn in by someone I meet and get to chat with. It might be someone new, or a familiar face, or spending time with the Lord, in a special place. I feel honoured to be able to do this small task for the parish of St James. This is my small way of returning my gratitude to God who has always blessed me as I have entered the doors of St James’s church.
