Welcome to the Altar Serving Ministry at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Ascot Vale 

Altar Serving is a ministry centred on service: first to God, then to the clergy celebrating the Holy Mass, and finally to the congregation gathered in worship. The role of the Altar Server is to ensure that the celebration of the Mass is reverent, efficient, and beautiful. As the Most Rev. Elliott describes, this is a "sacred duty" that upholds the transcendent reality of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our Christian lives. By fulfilling this role, Altar Servers contribute to a worship experience that reflects the divine and fosters a deeper connection with the sacred mysteries of our faith.

The Altar Server plays a crucial role in preparing for, participating in, and packing up after Mass. This includes ensuring everything is in place before Mass begins and assisting the priest and the sacristans with their preparations. During Mass, Servers prepare the altar and attend to anything the priest or other ministers require, which involves being alert and aware of the liturgy's progression. Packing up after Mass is equally important, ensuring that sacred vessels and other liturgical items are ready for the next service. Although the tasks may seem small, when done with reverence, piety, and love, they are acts of devotion directed towards God.
