The Church teaches that the temporal goods of a parish exist to serve its mission: to provide for divine worship, to support the ministers of the Church, and to carry out works of the apostolate and charity (Canon 1254 §2). In keeping with the Code of Canon Law, every parish is to have a finance council to assist the Parish Priest in the administration of parish goods (Canon 537).

The Parish Finance Committee is appointed by the Parish Priest. The Committee's role is to assist the Parish Priest with financial matters of the Parish, such as the Parish Thanksgiving Program, funding for building improvements, projects, Parish staff, etc.

The Committee serves in an advisory capacity. The Parish Priest remains the legal representative of the parish and is responsible for the administration of its goods (Canons 532, 1279 and 1281–1288). Committee members are faithful of the parish who lend their time, experience and professional expertise to this ministry (Canon 228 §2). Together with the Parish Priest, they seek to be faithful stewards of the gifts entrusted to our community and to be accountable to the parishioners who make those gifts (Canon 1287 §2).
