This group of volunteers plays a critical role in keeping our parish environment beautiful, functional, and comfortable for all who visit.

Here’s an overview of what the team does:

1 Building Maintenance and Upkeep

The team is responsible for maintaining the physical condition of the church building itself. This includes:

  • Regular cleaning of the sanctuary, pews, floors, windows, and other common areas.
  • Maintenance of church fixtures such as lights, heating, and cooling systems, ensuring that everything functions properly for liturgies and events.
  • Minor repairs to ensure safety and comfort, such as fixing leaks, painting, and addressing any small issues that may arise.

2. Lawn and Grounds Care

Our grounds are not just a setting for our services—they are an extension of our worship and community space. The team cares for:

  • Lawn mowing and trimming, ensuring that the grass remains neat and healthy.
  • Gardening—planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs, and trees to beautify our outdoor spaces.
  • Cleaning the grounds of litter, fallen branches, or debris to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Seasonal decorations—especially for liturgical seasons like Advent and Easter, ensuring the grounds reflect the liturgical life of our parish.

3. Setting Up for Special Events

The team assists with the physical setup of the church for special occasions, such as:

  • Weddings, baptisms, and funerals—arranging seating, flowers, and other necessary setups.
  • Seasonal decorations, such as setting up for Christmas, Easter, or other liturgical events.
  • Outdoor events, including picnics, parish festivals, or other gatherings held on church grounds.

4. Safety and Accessibility

Ensuring the safety and accessibility of our church and grounds is paramount. The maintenance team regularly:

  • Checks for safety hazards, like uneven walkways, broken lights, or obstacles that might cause accidents.
  • Maintains handicap accessibility—making sure ramps, parking, and pathways are clear and functional for everyone, including those with disabilities.
  • Prepares the church for inclement weather, such as clearing walkways of snow or salting icy paths during winter.

5. Collaboration with Parish Leadership

The team works closely with parish staff to ensure that any larger maintenance or renovation needs are addressed in a timely and efficient manner. This might include helping to organize contractors or specialists for bigger projects, such as roof repairs or upgrading the sound system.

In all these tasks, the team shows great care and devotion to our church, understanding that their work helps create a space where we can all come together in worship, fellowship, and service. They not only preserve the physical beauty of the church but also help create an atmosphere where the love of God can be experienced.
