St Margaret's Final Mass report
25 Oct 2026
The final Mass at St Margarets Church Maribyrnong was celebrated Sunday 25th October 2026 with a packed congregation overcoming the poor weather to celebrate the historically very important event. The Mass was concelebrated by Parish Priest Father Desmond Moloney and Assistant Priest and Lithuanian Chaplain Father Joseph Deveikis.
It was in some ways a sad occasion but there was a great sense of thanksgiving for the 77 years of worship by local parishioners who worked so hard to establish this Church and this part of our Parish community. We can be sure all who came here were touched by a genuine Christ centred spirituality.
Before Mass started Words of Remembrance were presented by Parishioner John Keaney and an Image of St Margaret of Scotland was handed to School Principal John Rudd for permanent display in the school. The Image of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour was presented to Bosko Basadur for St Mary's Church.
After Mass a large number of Parishioners attended Morning Tea in the school Multi Purpose Room. Certificates of Appreciation were handed out to Parishioners who have worked on maintaining St Margaret's Church as diligent volunteers.
In summary, the Mass and Morning Tea were dignified, aware and respectful of the circumstances of the occasion.
