Jubilee Year begins
22 Nov 2024The year of Jubilee Pilgrims of Hope
The jubilee year celebration in the catholic church on Christmas Eve 2024 and concludes on 6 January 2026. For the diocese the celebration begins this weekend with a special celebration at the Cathedral. For our parish our celebrations begin in February.
The theme
Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can "restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone". We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God's creation in which we understand ourselves as "pilgrims on the earth" rather than masters of the world.
The Jubilee 2025 logo, designed for the theme “Pilgrims of Hope” (Peregrinantes in Spem), is rich with symbolism reflecting humanity’s shared journey towards faith and hope. Here’s an explanation of its key elements:
1. Four Stylized Figures: These figures represent humanity coming together from the four corners of the earth. Their embrace signifies unity, solidarity, and fraternity among all people.
2. The Cross and Anchor: The first figure holds the Cross, symbolizing faith and hope. The Cross is depicted dynamically, bending toward humanity to emphasize God’s closeness and support. The base of the Cross transitions into an anchor, a traditional symbol of hope, signifying stability and salvation in life’s turbulent moments. This conveys the message that in life’s storms, Christ is the anchor of hope.
3. Waves Beneath the Cross: The rough waves symbolize the challenges and uncertainties of life. They highlight the necessity of hope and reliance on God’s guidance through difficult times.
4. Communal Pilgrimage: The figures move together as a group, underscoring the communal aspect of the pilgrimage of life. It reflects the shared journey of faith, marked by vitality and a forward movement towards the Cross.
5. Motto in Green: The phrase Pilgrims in Hope emphasizes the spirit of hope that guides this Jubilee year and is prominently displayed in green, a colour often associated with renewal and growth.
The logo encapsulates the Jubilee’s invitation to journey together in faith and hope, with the Cross leading the way to unity and salvation.
