First Eucharist

The Holy Eucharist is at the heart of Catholic life and worship. During the celebration of Mass, Catholics believe that the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the words of consecration.
First Holy Communion helps children understand the importance of the Eucharist and the gift of Jesus' presence in their lives. It is an opportunity to learn about God's love, forgiveness, and the importance of living according to the teachings of Christ.
Preparation for First Eucharist allows children to explore the meaning of the Mass, learn about the Last Supper, and understand the significance of receiving Holy Communion.
Parents, catechists, teachers, and parish communities play an important role in guiding children through this journey. Through prayer, Scripture, faith formation sessions, and participation in Mass, children are encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus.
The word Eucharist comes from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving. It reminds us to give thanks to God for the gift of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for humanity.
Through the Eucharist, Catholics are united with Christ and with one another as members of the Church. It encourages us to show kindness, practise forgiveness, care for those in need, and share God's love with everyone we meet.
First Holy Communion is a joyful occasion for children, families, and the parish community. It marks an important step in a child's faith journey and provides an opportunity for families to celebrate their commitment to Catholic life.
As children approach the altar to receive Jesus in Holy Communion, they are reminded that they are loved by God and welcomed into a deeper experience of faith and community.
