Baptism
BAPTISM OF INFANTS
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation and is an act of public worship. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches: "Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other Sacraments." (CCC #1123)
Infant Baptism (Newborn to 7 years old)
Infant baptisms are scheduled as follows:
St. Patrick’s Church, Kilmore: First and third Saturdays of the month at 11:00 am
Our Lady of the Way Church, Wallan: Second and fourth Saturdays of the month at 11:00 am
At least one parent must be a baptised Catholic, and Godparents also must be Catholics (at least one), as they play a vital role in supporting the child’s faith journey.
We are booking up to 6 children per session.
For the baptism of older children (above 7 years), please contact the Parish Office during office hours.
Preparation Requirements
Parents are required to attend a Preparation Session and a Welcome Rite prior to the baptism.
Preparation Session: Held on the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm at St. Patrick’s Church, Kilmore.
Welcome Rite (at least three weeks prior to Baptism Day): Celebrated during weekend Masses:
Saturday 6:30 pm – Kilmore
Sunday 8:45 am – Wallan
Sunday 10:45 am – Kilmore
Please come to the church at least 10 minutes before Mass commences and let Father or Sr Yen know you and your child come for the Welcome Rite.
Permission Letter for Baptism Outside the Parish
Families residing outside our parish boundaries are required to obtain a Permission Letter for Baptism from their local parish priest.
If you are unsure whether your residence falls within our parish boundaries, please contact the parish office for assistance.
Baptism Donation
It is customary to make a $100 donation to support the upkeep of the priest and the parish. Your generosity is sincerely appreciated.
You may also purchase a baptismal candle ($5) and a stole ($20) from our parish or choose to buy them online if you prefer.
Booking a Baptism
To book a baptism and preparation session for your child, please complete the Baptism register form and Parish census form below and email the completed forms and the child's birth certificate to the Parish Office.
