RCIA 2026-2027

Our journey begins on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at 7.30 pm at St. Anthony's meeting room, 45 Railway Place, Alphington.

RCIA Sessions:

• August 13th to December 3rd: Fortnightly meetings on Thursday evenings.
• December and January summer break.
• February 4^th 2027 to March 18th: Fortnightly meetings on Thursday evenings.
• Meetings are at 7.30pm at St Anthony’s meeting room unless otherwise advised.
• Easter Vigil: 19th March 2027.

THE RCIA JOURNEY

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) offers a program to help adults become Christians. This program involves learning about the Catholic faith, the teachings of the Catholic Church and how Catholics live out their faith.

At the end of the program, if people choose to be baptised or received into the Catholic Church, this usually happens at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening.

The rite of Christian initiation is also intended for children, not baptised as infants. This applies to children who have attained the minimum age of reason, usually around the age of seven or eight.

Adults and children participate in different programs in our parishes.

Becoming Catholic is a lifelong journey, growing deeper in relationship with Jesus, and in our understanding of our faith and action in the world.

The RCIA program is for everyone, whether you were baptised in another Christian church or haven’t been baptised. People who have been part of another faith tradition, or people with no formal connection to a church or faith tradition, are equally welcome. 

Our parish catechists, Cheryl and Jim, can help you through this process. We’ll work with you based on your specific needs, background and knowledge.

WHAT IS RCIA

The aim of the RCIA is to assist people from all backgrounds better understand the beliefs, practices and Sacraments of the Roman Catholic faith.

The RCIA sessions are a mix of prayer, faith sharing, scripture reading, discussion, instruction and dialogue. Each meeting will focus on a different topic which is central to the Christian faith. 

This journey of faith equips each individual with sufficient knowledge and preparation in order to commit to full communion with the Catholic Church.

WHAT IF I DECIDE NOT TO CONTINUE?

There is no obligation to complete the RCIA sessions, you may withdraw at any time.
