SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM FIRST RECONCILIATION - FIRST HOLY COMMUNION - CONFIRMATION

Our Sacramental Program is designed to help children and families prepare for and celebrate the key milestones of their faith journey, including Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

The program provides a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can grow in their understanding of the sacraments and deepen their relationship with God and the Church community.

We offer a Sacramental Programme for children who attend Catholic and non-Catholic schools and who wish to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

Children enrolled at Sacred Heart Primary School or St Mary’s Primary School will be prepared by their class teachers, the school’s Faith Leader, and Parish Priest during school hours.

The Parish Sacrament Lessons are held at Sacred Heart Church Sandringham. The Reconciliation program lasts approximately 3 weeks and the Holy Communion and Confirmation programs is about 10 weeks, and they are conducted by our Parish Priest, Father Martin Tanti.

Although the parish runs this program, it is still very much a partnership with the children’s families. With the support of the parish, families will be encouraged to actively participate in some aspects of the preparation, including attending Mass, and will be given tools to nurture their own and their child’s faith.

The requirements for making each of the sacraments is as follows:

First Reconciliation, A sacrament of healing and forgiveness:

Must be a baptized Catholic

Must be in Grade 3 or above.

Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Confession, we receive God’s forgiveness for our sins. At the same time, we are reunited with the Church community.

Confessing our sins helps us feel freedom and peace, and it also makes it easier to restore our relationships with others.

First Holy Communion Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time:

Must be a baptized Catholic

Must have completed the Sacrament of Reconciliation

Must be in Grade 4 or above.

Through this special sacrament, we remember and celebrate everything Jesus has done for us—His life, death, and resurrection.

We especially think about the Last Supper, when Jesus turned bread and wine into His Body and Blood and gave the Eucharist as a gift for all His followers.

Confirmation: Strengthening our commitment to faith through the Holy Spirit:

Must be a baptized Catholic

Must have completed the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

Must be in Grade 6 or above.

Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation that strengthens the promises made at Baptism by our parents. Through Confirmation, children accept the commitments made for them at Baptism and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

These gifts help them grow in faith and give them the strength to live as witnesses of Christ in the world.
