As we go through life, at times our words and actions may not correspond to our call of loving God and neighbours. We become burdensome and wounded. Like the prodigal son in the Gospel, the guilt of our wrongdoings can make us feel unworthy of God's love for us. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God wants us to experience his unconditional love and mercy for us again, so that the burden of our sin may be lifted, its wound healed and a new beginning made possible.

At the heart of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the acknowledgement of our human frailty, and therefore our need for God's mercy and forgiveness which is always on offer if we come to him with humble and contrite heart. It does not seek to make us feel bad about ourselves, for indeed we already experience that when we sin. Rather, it helps us to experience God's healing mercy so we can be made whole again.

At St Peter's Parish, The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated every Saturday immediately after 9.15am Mass until 10.30am. You can always approach a priest should you wish to receive this Sacrament.
