St Peter’s Parish, Epping has a long history. The first Catholic services in the area were conducted by a priest from St. Francis in Melbourne. On 18 May 1848, Fr. P.B. Geoghegan was reputed to have said the Mass at the home of Alexander MacKillop (father of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop). 

Bishop Gould celebrated Mass in a marquee and laid the foundation stone for St Peter’s Church on November 5, 1865 therefore making it the second oldest church in Victoria outside the city area. Epping had at this time a population of about 300 people. In the Census of 2021, Epping had a population of 52,030 with a Catholic population of 10,968.

The Parish of St Peter’s has gone through many changes of boundary and population over the years and today is a parish which includes three parish schools: - ‘St Peter’s’ (opened in 1934), ‘St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’ (opened in 2013) and ‘Mary Glowrey’ (opened 2019). A fourth school, ‘Carlo Acutis Catholic Primary School” will open in 2025. 

The Parish Feast Day is on June 29^th and is a shared feast day with St Paul.

St Peter was given the task by Jesus to lead the other apostles and from him stem all the popes of the Catholic Church. The parish also follows in the steps of St Peter by sharing and spreading the message of Jesus, and the Gospels, in the community today.
