The land on which our Parish and School are now situated was originally donated to the Archdiocese of Melbourne in 1925 by Mr. Patrick Finn.

Due to the population growth in the area the St. Mary’s Parish was formed In 1952 and Fr. Thomas Ashe moved from Diamond Creek Parish to be the first Parish Priest of this newly formed Parish. (The parish of St. Thomas the Apostle is named after him).

As St. Mary’s parish grew the Archdiocese decided it was necessary to create another parish. The Archdiocese sold some land from the Finn estate to the newly formed Parish of St. Thomas the Apostle on which our Church & School buildings now stand.

Our community began in 1977 with Sunday Mass said at the chapel of Churinga.

 The primary school was built in 1979 and the Parish of St Thomas the Apostle was officially formed on 19th January 1986 with Fr. Kevin McIntosh being our inaugural parish priest.A Mass Centre / School Hall and Parish Centre were first built and opened 13th December 1987. Finally construction of our impressive Chapel commenced and was officially opened on the 1st August 1999.

In January 2005 Fr. Kevin McIntosh was transferred to the Sunbury Parish and Fr. Michael McEntee was appointed as the new Parish Priest of St. Thomas the Apostle.

In January 2012 St. Thomas the Apostle was partnered with Diamond Creek Parish, incorporating both the Sacred Heart Church Diamond Creek and St. Peter’s Church Hurstbridge with Fr. Michael the parish priest of both parishes.

In January 2017, on the request of Archbishop Hart, Fr. Michael McEntee was appointed as parish Priest of Mentone/Parkdale. The parishes of Greensborough North and Diamond Creek were then partnered with the Parish of St. Mary's Greensborough and Fr. Steven Rigo (the current Parish Priest of St. Mary's) was appointed as Parish Priest of all three parishes. At the same time Fr. Tao Pham and Fr. Dong Tran were appointed as Assistant Priests to Fr. Rigo.

Fr Dong Tran, has since moved on and we now have Fr Dixon George here with with Fr Rigo and Fr Pham.

Sadly Fr Tao Pham passed away on the 15th January 2023.

The current Assistant Priests at St Thomas are Fr Martin Tanti and Fr Ananda Maddineni MSFS.

Fr Martin was appointed as Parish Priest to Sandringham in February 2024.

Fr Ananda is now the Administrator at Airport West Parish.

We welcome Fr Zaher Al Mhanna who commenced as Assistant Priest in November 2024.
