Melbourne Synod Sessions, August 2026
29 July 2026Archbishop Peter A Comensoli has formally convoked a Synod for the Archdiocese of Melbourne. A Synod is a gathering of God's people - bishops, priests and representatives - who come and discern together about matters regarding faith, governance, and pastoral care. This process involves prayer, dialogue and consultation, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of the Church's mission in the contemporary world. This is an opportunity for us as a Parish to contribute our thoughts.
Archbishop Peter A Comensoli has invited the community to focus on three key themes for the Synod.
As you would be aware from the Parish Newsletter over many weeks, the Archdiocese is holding a Synod. A synod means journeying together and reflecting on what the Holy Spirit is wanting from the Archdiocese of Melbourne. This is an opportunity for us as a Parish to contribute our thoughts.
We are holding sessions on the three topics on:
Sunday 9 August, Sacred Heart, 10:00 am
Young Discipleship
Sunday 16 August, St Thomas’, 11:30 am
Missionary Leadership
Sunday 23 August, St Mary’s, 11:00 am
Formation and Participation
We are all one Parish, and you are all invited to join any or all of the sessions. We would like this to be a prayerful, enjoyable and inclusive time for all. It is not only encouraged, but essential. Sessions will be approximately one hour and will be held in the Church. No need to book.
See below the outcome of the meetings at our Parishes.
